Al-Furqan boys robbed by Dar-ul-Uloom (2-3)
It was a torrential downpour that brought the proceedings to a start at Small Heath Leisure Centre. It was supposed to be a Year 7s, eight a side football match. Our team with 4 substitutes and theirs with 15. Our team with Year 7s and theirs with Year 8s and 9s. I'm sure I don't need to say anything else.
Even a baby could have predicted what was going to happen. Yes, we lost. But, unfair as it was, they only managed to beat us by 1 goal. It was men against giants, but Al-Furqan took the lead with Yousef Khashan scoring a spectacular goal. Zeid Hussein doubled the lead a few minutes later through a penalty.
The second half saw the sort of rain that is usually only seen during the monsoon season in South Asia. This is where Dar-ul-Uloom's age and weight advantage paid off, as they levelled with 2 quick goals. The damage would have been far worse, had it not been for the heroics of our goalie - Abdul Rahman Usama. What a player!
After the onslought, it was innevitable that the opposition found their way through for the winner, which came in the dying seconds of the match.
We challenge Dar-ul-Uloom to play their real Year 7s against ours, and to have the same number of substitutes. Then, and only then, will we call it a game.
