Assemblies at Al-Furqan Commuity College

As part of our careers programme the college has two themes for all assemblies. Islam and its relevance in today's world is the basis of one. The other assembly is on citizenship. Our assemblies are proactive and we welcome a dialogue and encourage students to ask questions.

As part of citizenship we have invited numerous speakers into college to talk to our students.

The first of these assemblies was led by two officers from the West Midlands Police. One in plain clothes and the other an uniformed officer. They both talked not just about their respective vocations but also why they chose those professions, the hurdles they faced and finally the satisfaction it gives them now that they are in the thick of it.

One of the most inspiring talks was by Salma Yakoob, Councillor at Birmingham City Council. She is also very active in local politics. Salma talked about why she went into politics and how she maintains her work life balance now.

A NHS worker talked about her work with ethnic minority communities. It certainly was food for thought for our students

	This is a good career and you maintain an excellent work life balance. Think about it.	Out of Africa and the knowledge of different cultures is the topic at this assembly. A well travelled and well read young lady reminisces about her experiences. Travel broadens the mind.	Learning about different cultures! Money, jewellery, clothes and customs from afar!
